It is used to indicate when the car is in reverse. That red wire is for head units that do not have a dedicated rear/backup camera wire. If your head unit has one dont use that red wire if u do not have a dedicated backup camera wire (purple) then attach that wire to the hot wire of ur rear reverse light!
