vaseline, motor oil, any lubricant used in moderation would be ok. if its a coolant hose i would use vaseline or a thin coat of grease instead of oil.

Use some dish soap or some other water based lubricant. Coolant hose is not made for petroleum product use. Dish soap is a standard hose lubricant - even for installing fuel hose!
